Product FAQ

Use

Q. How do I turn on the ADC Adview®?
A. The power button, which is blue and slightly recessed, is located on the right side of the BP device. Press it to turn the device on, and again to turn it off.
Q. How do you use the ADC Adview® to take a manual BP?
A. Apply the cuff to the patient as you normally would. Press and hold the manual button to inflate the cuff. Watch the pressure displayed and release the button to start deflating the cuff. Place your stethoscope on the brachial artery to take a manual measurement.
Q. How long does the battery last before it has to be recharged?
A. A fully charged battery provides enough power for the device to make at least 200 measurements within a 12-hour period.
Q. Why does the prediction time for the Filac™ Fastemp™ vary?
A. When predicting a temperature the Fastemp™ takes into account a patient’s physiological conditions. Depending on the patient’s level of perfusion, a normal measurement can take 4-10 seconds before a final temperature is displayed. If the patient has a fever (99.7 °F/ 37.6 °C or above), the measurement can take longer. This is done to increase accuracy and ensure reliability of the temperature.
Q. Can the ADC Adview® be used on neonates?
A. The ADC Adview® is validated to be used on patients age 3 and older.
Q. What method of blood pressure measurement is used in the ADC Adview®?
A. The ADC Adview® takes automated BP measurements using the oscillometric method. It supplements this with the ability to take measurements as you would if you were using a mechanical sphygmomanometer.
Q. The temperature module shows the warning icon and a "10" status code. How do I get it to work again?
A. This signifies a missing temperature probe. This may occur while switching the probes, blue (oral/axillary) to red (rectal) or vice versa. To solve the problem: Remove and then place the probe in the well. Furthermore, you may need to ensure that the temperature well (the rear portion of the temperature module) is well seated on the display. Along the top of the module, the edge of the well should be flush with the display. Remove and carefully slide the well onto the display. Finally, if the error has not been cleared, turn the unit off and then on again.
Q. Can the ADC Adview® send data to an EMR/EHR system?
A. An Adview® Diagnostic Station equipped with the optional Bluetooth™ capability can send blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen saturation data via a Bluetooth™ wireless EMR/EHR interface. An ADC Software Development Kit (SDK) is available to facilitate integration with EMR/EHR vendors. Send us an email at info@adctoday.com for more information.
Q. Could I use the Adview® to measure blood pressure during a stress test?
A. Although your Adview® is a robust device that has been manufactured with motion tolerance, it is not intended for use during stress testing.

Q. I think my ADC Adview® BP is reading high. How can I check if it is measuring correctly?
A. Take a manual BP to compare. Leave the cuff on the patient as it was for the auto measurement. Press and hold the manual button to inflate the cuff. Watch the pressure displayed, and release the button to start deflating the cuff. Place your stethoscope on the brachial artery to take a manual measurement. Because of the differences between the automated method used by the ADC Adview®, called oscillometry, and the manual method, called auscultation, it is known that there will be instances where the two methods on the same patient will produce measurements that are different. This should happen infrequently. If this occurs consistently on patient after patient, we recommend that you check the calibration of the ADC Adview®.
Q. I think my ADC Adview® BP is reading high. How can I check if it is calibrated correctly?

A. To check calibration:

  1. Start with the device powered off. While holding down the automatic button on the front of the BP module, toggle on the power button on the right side of the main enclosure. The “CAL” message is displayed in the pulse rate display to indicate that the system is in the calibration mode. During this mode, the system pressure displays in the systolic BP display area.
  2. Using a T-connector (ADC Adview® part #991), connect a calibrated pressure reference and control, such as a manometer and inflation bulb, to the pressure hose connector of the ADC Adview®.
  3. Compare the pressure reference to the ADC Adview® at several pressures throughout the range, 0 to 270mmHg. If the difference between the pressure reference and the ADC Adview®is no larger than 2mmHg, the ADC Adview® is calibrated correctly for operation.
  4. Exit the calibration check by pressing the automatic button again. Once the display shows dashes as the systolic BP, you are now ready to take a measurement.
Q. How do I install the rechargeable battery in the Adview®?
A. Remove the battery bay cover and position the rechargeable battery within, ensuring proper alignment of polarities. Replace the cover securely and connect the device to AC mains power via the power supply to turn the device on. Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.
Q. How do I store and recharge my ADC Adview® with battery?
A. If the ADC Adview® will not be used for an extended period of time, it should be attached to the power supply until fully charged (all battery icon segments stay illuminated).
Storage Temperature Recharge Frequency
Below -4ºF (-20ºC)
Do not store at this temperature
-4ºF (-20ºC) to 68ºF (20ºC) Every two months
69ºF (21ºC) to 85ºF (29ºC) Every month

The Importance of Measuring Blood Pressure in Dental Offices

Dental care professionals realize that the key component of any thorough dental hygiene appointment is patient assessment. While there are several tools used for conducting screenings and examinations for oral health, other aspects of patient health that may be related to dental heath are often overlooked. A patient's blood pressure is one of these parameters. Appropriate monitoring of blood pressure can not only improve outcomes of dental care, but also play a role in improving the overall health of patients.

Accurate Blood Pressure Measurement: The Trouble with Traditional Automated Monitors—The Need for Something New

According to the American Heart Association, nearly one third of adults have hypertension (defined as sustained high blood pressure of 140 /90 mmHg and above). Uncontrolled high blood pressure greatly increases the risk of heart disease and stroke - the first and third leading causes of death in developed nations. Because there are no symptoms, many people with hypertension do not know they have it. The only way to tell is to have an accurate check of your blood pressure.

Accurate Blood Pressure Measurement: What is it? Why is it important? Why is it so difficult to obtain a reliable measurement?

Similar to the pressure created by water flowing through a garden hose, blood pressure refers to the force exerted by circulating blood on the walls of our arteries and blood vessels. Blood pressure is commonly measured by inflating a cuff on the upper arm and watching the pressure indicated by a blood pressure gauge while listening to the Korotkoff sounds at the brachial artery with a stethoscope. The cuff must first be inflated enough to stop all the blood from flowing through the artery. Then, as the pressure in the cuff is gradually released with a valve, the occlusion of the artery is reduced. The point at which blood begins to flow again is signaled by the first Korotkoff sound. This is an indication of the peak blood pressure in the arteries and is referred to as systolic blood pressure. Continued reduction of the pressure in the cuff eventually allows the blood to flow completely unobstructed again. This point is signaled by the disappearance of the Korotkoff sounds and is considered a reliable indication of diastolic blood pressure.

The accuracy and clinical validation of the Adview® 9000

The accuracy of a blood pressure (BP) device or monitor is often determined by comparing its measurement relative to the measurement of an observer using a mercury sphygmomanometer and stethoscope on the same patient. The human observer with this setup in a controlled environment, with a meticulously prepared patient, and the practice of careful measurement is considered to be the gold standard of non-invasive blood pressure measurement. Measurements taken in this manner are the basis for the levels that are the current definitions of high BP or hypertension, 140/90, and normal BP, 120/801.

Accurate Blood Pressure Measurement: Why do monitors read high?

If you have ever used an automated monitor to measure blood pressure, you probably have encountered a reading you thought was too high. In these situations, clinicians usually take a measurement themselves using a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope to either confirm the reading or question whether the monitor is working properly. If the reading is confirmed, you and your patient may be surprised to realize that your patient’s BP is not what you expected. Alternatively, if the reading is different, you may wonder if your monitor is calibrated or operating correctly. Regardless of the situation, why is this happening at all?
