American Diagnostic Corporation (ADC) is a premier manufacturer of diagnostic medical products, personal instruments, and accessories for the healthcare industry – including blood donation centers! Seeing our products in use in the field is fun, but of course it’s not why so many on our staff and customers are long-time, regular blood donors.
This year, in honor of Blood Donor Month, we’re inviting you to join ADC’s first-ever Virtual Blood Drive! To join us, go to the campaign page, hosted by the American Red Cross, and click the PLEDGE TO GIVE BLOOD button. Fill out the short form to sign up, then view Red Cross locations to schedule your appointment.
Please Note: If you don’t see a Red Cross location near you, you can still join our drive! Just make your pledge and then search online for a local donation center, If you live near our Long Island headquarters, check out New York Blood Centers.
Why donate blood?
Donated blood has the power to save lives. It’s vital for patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatments, or transfusions due to traumatic injuries. Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation.
-
Approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S.
-
Nearly 7,000 units of platelets and 10,000 units of plasma are needed daily in the U.S.
-
Nearly 21 million blood components are transfused each year in the U.S.
-
The average red blood cell transfusion is approximately 3 pints.
-
A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.
Who can donate?
In most states, you must be 17 or older to donate whole blood. In states where 16-year-olds are eligible to donate, a signed parental consent form may be required. You must weigh at least 110 lbs. and be in good health — that means you feel well and can perform normal activities. Certain medical conditions and/or medications may impact your eligibility to donate, click here for more information.
How will your blood donation be used?
Hospitals and patients are in constant need of blood donors. Every day, blood donations help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. The list goes on. Giving blood means giving hope and courage to patients anxiously awaiting the chance to live healthy, full lives.
